The director of my department is an adoptive parent. They waited 5 long years for their babyboy. The other day she stopped me to share a conversation she recently has with her son(her son is grown and serving in the US Coast Guard).
Her son is home on leave and asked her, "When did you guys move to Florida?" She replied "1981". He then asked her" When did you get me?" She said "1986". He then asked his mother "What did you do during those 5 years?". She replied" Waited for you."
I thought that was such a cute story. I really explains what it is like to be an adoptive parent. As you go through the motions of your everyday life, you are simply waiting..
